About us

The band got formed in 2011 and was awarded for the song Wild Butterfly on The 32nd Mid-Atlantic Song Contest Washington international songwriting contest in 2016. The prize was handed over in Washington DC in January. The same year they got official finalist awards for the song „Find my way” on the Hollywood Songwriting Contest and on the ASA American Songwriting Contest.

The members of the band are young proffesionals who proved their talent by cooperating on several video clips and recordings with well known domestic and foreign musicians. The formation mainly plays instrumental music, but on concerts they perform with excellent singers as well. GUP played on Jazz-Blues festivals, clubs and concert halls accross Europe and they have become well known in the domestic music scene. The bands opennes is shown by the members different backgrounds from different genres which brings extra spice to their music and style.

The repertoire contains predominantly their own songs but also includes high standard adaptations of famous blues and jazz songs.

Attila Gébert

Attila Gébert

Composer, jazz pianist, private teacher.

At the age of 10 he began his classical piano musical studies at the Ferenc Liszt Music School in Szekszárd.
After graduation, he studied jazz piano at the MZTSZ Kõbányai Music Studio. The teachers of main subjects were János Fogarasi and Jenõ Esze, the orchestra practice were tutored by Tóth János Rudolf és Babos Gyula.

For Attila teaching is as important and decisive in his life as playing music.

As a session musician he has participated in several productions from 2006 to 2011. Attila played with
renowned musicians such as Ádám Török, Miklós Felkai,
József Kalmusz, Jenõ Fekete, István Mezõfi "Fifi" and with many others.

In 2011, after many years of concert performance with Ferenc Ulbert guitar player they have founded the Gebert-Ulbert Project Band.

In 2015, the duo released an album with singer Andras Ferenczy.

In 2016 and 2017, two albums/songs got released by the prestigious smoothjazz.com in the United States of America.

Ferenc Ulbert

Ferenc Ulbert

Musician, composer, guitarist

Ferenc`s career started with blues and jazz music and his recent music is still strongly influenced by these genres.
His mentor Ferenc Ruff always teached him to play freely and this helped him to succesfully perform with musicians like Fekete Jeno and Szabo Tamas.
Ferenc has tried himself in several different genres with foreign and domestic performers as well recorded on TV and radio.
His first and second album was released by the prestigious smoothjazz.com in the United States of America and many of the songs written by Ferenc has been awarded overseas.

Bálint Takács

Bálint Takács

Musician, teacher, composer.

He has been playing since he was 12 years old. His private teachers were Karol Danis and János Lau.
He continued his high school studies at the Pozsony Conservatory where graduated from classical percussion.
At Kőbányai Music Studio his mentors were János Sramkó, Kornél Fekete-Kovács, Gábor Cseke, Jen Esze and János Tóth Rudolph.
Balint worked as drummer teacher at Musical Primary School in Sturovo. After that he was playing on cruise ships and he appeared in many formations.

2003 – 2nd at Slovak Percussion Contest.
2011 – 1st at Talentometer A38 ship in best Jazz band category
2013 – 3rd at Hungarian Jazz Association Contest in Jazz combo category (with own composition)
2015 – 1st at 20th Hungarian Peronmusic Talent Contest with GUP

His career as a musician started in the elementary school where he played on violin and flute, but at the age of 12 he changed to guitar and bass. From 1996, Marton started to play in bands. While he was studying at Kobanya Zeni Studio and Liszt Ferenc musical academy he got involved more and more into the Hungarian music scene. He played on the most lucrative festivals and clubs with ocasional formations and he keep being a member of bands of different music genres. Marton`s prefered music styles are jazz, fusion, funk, pop, rock, world music.
Recently he is an active session musician and guest performer on concerts, in theatres and on albums. He is also a teacher in 2 art music schools.

Ágnes Szász

Ágnes Szász

Singer, composer

Agnes is currently studying Jazz singing at ETÛD Music School from mentors such as Gábor Winand, János Ávéd, János Nagy. Her career started in Transylvania in a small village called Negyfalu. At her early age she learned from musicians like Monika Ciocalau and Luiza Zan. She decided to pursue her singer career after push/pressure/suggestion from mentors in Jazz camp for youth in Sepsiszentgyörgy.
Her singing style is influenced by pop, jazz, blues, soul and rnb or depending how she feels at that very moment.

András Ferenczy

András Ferenczy

Singer, teacher, composer

Andras studied Jazz singing at the Bartók Béla Music Conservatory. His mentor was Attila Garay. Between 1981 and 1983 he was singer/guitarist in BErki Tamas Trio and 1987 he was a vocalist of Zoran. Then, until 1990
he was a solo singer in various revue programs at Astoria, Savoy, Hotel Europa.
After 1990 he worked with Istvan Janicsak and in the Postas music school and he was the lead singer of Bakter Brothers.
From 2000 Andras was performing in rockopera directed by Koltai Gabor with fellow singers like Deak Bill Gyula, Varga Miklos and Nagy Fero.
He is mainly interested in light music, but he has tried himself in many genres as well. His favorites are jazz, blues, revu - broadway, musical, pop-rock, funky, soul and latin american tunes.
